DHL and Skillspoint launch UK-wide Apprenticeship scheme

DHL Supply Chain, the UK’s leading logistics provider, has partnered with training and development agency Skillspoint, to launch a nationwide, accredited Apprenticeship scheme.

Aimed at 18 to 24 year olds, the 12 month program will provide apprentices with both work-based training and qualifications in Warehouse & Storage, and Traffic Office. Each apprentice will also receive support from their line manager while a designated ‘Apprentice Ambassador’ will be on hand to provide guidance and act as a mentor throughout the program. On completion of the scheme, successful apprentices will be guaranteed a permanent position working at one of DHL Supply Chain’s 400 sites.

Nikki Craig, VP HR UK, Ireland and Nordics at DHL Supply Chain said: “The aim of the scheme is to introduce young people to a career within logistics, while boosting the number of employees coming into our Entry Level Talent program. We are offering our apprentices the opportunity to learn new skills, gain qualifications and, upon successful completion of the 12 month program, a guaranteed full time and varied career with DHL.”

Duncan Roberts, Director at Skillspoint added: “We’re delighted to be working alongside DHL to develop this scheme with our Preferred Partner Network, which at launch will offer two Apprenticeship programs: Warehouse & Storage and Traffic Office. Already, interest is strong and we’re looking to broaden the breadth of courses offered from 2015 onwards.”

Applications to the scheme will be open from 28 April 2014 through the National Apprenticeship Scheme (NAS) or by visiting www.dhl-apprenticeship.com.
