TfL to launch contactless payments on September 16th

Transport for London (TfL) is set to introduce contactless payments for pay as you go customers on the Tube, London Overground, DLR and Trams and buses from September 16th.

This is one step in a wider scheme on the part of TfL to introduce a range of improvements to services to make commuting a more straightforward experience.

Contactless payments from credit, debit, charge or pre-paid cards or devices will work in the same way as an Oyster card, with the commuter touching in and out of gates at the start and end of every journey.

The bank or financial provider will be sent a single charge per day for payment - and this will clearly be referenced as a payment to TfL.

Director of customer experience at the organisation Shashi Verma said: "Offering the option of contactless payments will make it easier and more convenient for customers to pay for their travel, freeing them of the need to top up Oyster credit."
