Airbus Group reports "solid" performance

Airbus Group reported "solid" results for the first half of 2014, allaying fears about the state of the commercial aviation market after a wave of cancellations.

The firm has reported 225 cancellations since the start of the year, but chief executive Tom Enders said the market for commercial aircraft "remains strong".

Airbus' first-half operating profits increased by ten per cent, while there was a six per cent rise in revenue led by aeroplane and helicopter sales.

The firm said demand for products remains strong, pointing to the contracts secured at the Farnborough Air Show, where it announced 496 aircraft orders.

Mr Enders said: "The first half of 2014 was all about keeping our main development and series programmes on track and implementing our restructuring plans in defence and space."

The company's outlook remains positive, with no major disruptions expected as the world economy and air traffic grow in line with forecasts. Deliveries in 2014 are expected to be around the same level as in 2013.
