Smaller airports top customer satisfaction poll

Smaller airports are providing better passenger experiences, according to a new consumer survey.

London Southend and Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield airports topped a poll conducted by Which? to find the UK's best and worst airports, achieving a customer satisfaction score of 85 per cent.

Eight of the country's smaller airports scored highly enough to be awarded Which? Recommended Provider status, while none of the larger hubs received this accolade.

The highest scoring large airport, Newcastle, achieved a score of 66 per cent, which was significantly lower than those of its smaller counterparts.

Luton fared particularly badly, with the airport receiving a score of just 37 per cent - a fall of six percentage points on last year.

Factors taken into account by the survey include pick-up and drop-off, seating provision, queues at security, passport control and baggage reclaim.

Which? executive director Richard Lloyd said: "The message from travellers is clear - larger airports continue to let people down on the basics, from baggage reclaim to food outlets."
