Peel Ports releases Liverpool 2 employment details

Peel Ports has released details of the jobs for which it will be recruiting when its deep water 'Liverpool 2' terminal on the Mersey is completed.

Some 500 direct jobs are to be created in Liverpool when the new dock opens, along with thousands more in the wider UK economy.

Full and part time opportunities are being created for stevedores, pilots, launch crew, line handlers, plant operators, haulage administrators, vessel planning and supervision staff. There will also be work in management, accounts and commercial services.

The company also plans to invest £350,000 in training to meet a growing demand for skilled workers, the Liverpool Echo reports. It is to collaborate with Hugh Baird College, Mersey Maritime, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Community College.

David Huck, port director at Peel Ports, said the Liverpool 2 project has the potential to contribute to an export-led recovery, but added that investment in skills is needed to ensure the scheme is "truly sustainable".
