Bus employees recognised for participating in Queens Baton Relay
Two bus drivers and a supervisor from First Glasgow have been awarded special engraved replica batons for participating as baton bearers in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games' Queen's Baton Relay.

Upon presenting the engraved batons, First Glasgow’s operations director John Cahill said: ‘At First Glasgow we’re very proud to have played an integral part in the Games, it’s great that Jean, James and Jason thoroughly enjoyed participating in the relay as baton holders – they’ve been fantastic ambassadors for First Glasgow.’

Bus driver James Gallacher, who lives in Cardonald with his wife and son and carried the baton in East Ayrshire on Saturday 21 June. The 50 year old who is based at First Glasgow’s Scotstoun depot has been driving buses for First for 19 years.

Talking about being awarded the special baton James Gallacher said: 'It's been a privilege and a joy taking part in the Queens Baton Relay, I felt very honoured to be a part of it. Being awarded with a special engraved replica baton was a really nice surprise.’

On Sunday 22 June, First Glasgow’s lead administrator, Jean Fraser carried the baton through South Lanarkshire. Jean, who lives in Overtown, said: ‘I was thrilled to have the honour of carrying the Queen’s Baton in Carluke. It was such a surreal experience, I can’t quite put it into words. I can only describe it as one of the most memorable, amazing and humbling experiences of my life.

‘I’m delighted with my inscribed replica baton, it was very kind of the company, it’s as a very special memento for me.’

Jason Boyce (39) a keen runner and a driver at First Glasgow’s Parkhead depot said: 'I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Queens Baton Relay, the support from the crowd was incredible, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I enjoyed every minute. My engraved replica baton is a nice way to remember my experience.’

The baton 190,000km trip around the world and then visited all parts of Scotland over 40 days before arriving at the Opening Ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

In addition to the local bus network, First Games Transport operated a network of dedicated Games Family bus services as well as spectator shuttle services for the largest Glasgow 2014 events. Over the Games around 230,000 Games-related journeys were made on First bus services.
