Strong start for Edinburgh's new tram service

Edinburgh's newest tram line has been in action since May and has carried 1.5 million passengers in the first 100 working days.

Statistics from Transport for Edinburgh reveal a record number of around 130,000 passengers, have travelled on the service from May to September.

Some 90,000 people have since travelled by tram each week since September.

There were many major events in the city during this period,? including ?a ?One Direction concert and Champions League games at Murrayfield?,?which lead to an increase in passengers travelling on the service.

Ian Craig, chief executive of Transport for Edinburgh, said: "I'm very pleased with progress so far and with 100 days of the tram service under our belts we're well placed to thrive as a modern integrated transport operator. What we're seeing suggests a genuine increase in use of public transport which is a priority for us but also a shared inspiration for many in the city."

Despite the high profile events and some service disruption?, a total of 98.7 per cent of trams have completed full route journeys since the service began.
