World’s largest aircraft arrives in Yorkshire
The world’s largest aircraft made a flying visit to Yorkshire as it flew into Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield on an operational cargo mission.

Only one AN-225 Mryia (Dream) was ever built by the company Antonov, and this giant of the skies, operated by Ukrainian company Antonov Airlines, landed in Doncaster to collect 150 tonnes of engineering equipment for a transatlantic flight.

The AN-225 is 275 feet in length, with a wingspan of 290 feet and a maximum take-off weight of 640 tonnes.

Dayle Hauxwell, Cargo Manager at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “The arrival of this huge aircraft is further proof of Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s ability to handle the largest aircraft and cargo shipments.

“The AN-225 is the largest cargo freighter in the world and we are absolutely thrilled that it was able to land here in Yorkshire.

“We are working hard to develop our reputation as one of the UK’s leading freight airports and the arrival of the AN-225 gives us a further opportunity to prove that we are capable of delivering a first class service, responding quickly to the needs of the customer.”

The freight was handled by Anglo World Cargo, the Cargo terminal operator for Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Anglo World Cargo operates from Hangar 1 at the airport and manages the processing of all freight in and out of the airport.

Gary Winterman, Managing Director at Anglo World Cargo, said: “We were delighted to welcome the AN-225 to Doncaster again.

“The airlines decision to operate to Doncaster Sheffield Airport is a great advert for the airport’s ability to handle this type of oversized cargo.

“We hope that our growing reputation for offering hassle free, friendly service will help in continuing to develop our cargo throughput and mean we see the AN-225 again soon.”

Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s Cargo Terminal consists of 12,000sqft of operational space and has a full range of equipment and facilities capable of handling any aircraft. This, coupled with the airport’s 2893m runway, gives them the ability to handle all aspects of airfreight from the smallest parcel to bespoke charters of the largest cargo aircraft.
