South Yorkshire ‘Have Your Say’ survey results revealed

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) has published the results of a public consultation into public transport information, travel stops and interchanges in the county.

The ‘Have Your Say’ consultation took place between 1st September and 8th October 2014 and asked South Yorkshire residents about the services SYPTE provides, and how customers felt they might be delivered in the future, if savings needed to be made.

The findings will be considered as part of the Executive’s budget setting process. SYPTE’s 2015/16 budget decisions will be made by the Sheffield City Region (SCR) Combined Authority early in the new year.

SYPTE is largely funded by South Yorkshire’s local authorities via a levy paid to the SCR Combined Authority.

Central government cuts to local authority budgets has, in turn, seen SYPTE’s budget reduced by more than £25 million over the past four years. Further cuts to the levy of 10% are being asked for 2015/16.

In 2013/14 SYPTE made cutbacks to its concessionary travel scheme, community transport fares went up by 50p and funding was withdrawn from the FreeBee bus services in Sheffield, Rotherham and the #638 Park and Ride express bus service in Doncaster.

The Executive is not currently working on plans to change the current concessionary travel offer or to cut the bus services it funds.

The results of the Have Your Say consultation are available online at sypte.co.uk/haveyoursay.
