No let up for logistics and supply chains in run up to Christmas

There has been no let up for the logistics and supply chain industry in the run up to Christmas.

In the past, the week directly before Christmas Day has been a lot quieter for delivery companies, as people usually send parcels and purchase goods online at the start of the month.

However, bosses at MetaPack told Logistics Manager that the "shopping peak" is getting later and later each year.

Traditionally, delivery volumes fall by 30 to 50 per cent in the week leading up to December 25th, but this has not happened this year and van and lorry drivers were expected to be extremely busy between December 17th and 20th.

"Retailers such as ASOS, Boohoo, Matalan and Monsoon were still experiencing increasing volumes at the start of this week," MetaPack chief executive officer Patrick Wall was quoted as saying.

"The majority of leading retailers will continue to take pre-Christmas orders until at least Thursday."

Thankfully, the weather has remained favourable, with temperatures staying relatively mild. The clear roads have helped to ensure traffic keeps moving across the UK and Christmas deliveries will be made on time.
