Sir Terry Morgan joins London City Airport

08 March 2017/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Aviation

After more than ten years, Roy Griffins is to retire as Chairman of London City Airport. Roy has overseen a period of outstanding growth at the airport and leaves the business in excellent shape to fulfill its potential.

Under Roy's guidance, London City has achieved remarkable safe and sustainable growth, attained record passenger levels over successive years, weathered shocks to the global aviation market, and transitioned to new ownership.

Sir Terry Morgan CBE joins the London City Airport Board and will take over as its new Chairman.

Sir Terry is currently a non-executive Chairman of Crossrail Limited and Ricardo plc and former executive in the UK infrastructure and defence space. Sir Terry was the Chief Executive of Tube Lines from 2002-2009 and Managing Director of Land Rover vehicles in the early 1990s.

Sir Terry said: "I am delighted to be taking on this role at such an exciting period at London City Airport with the City Airport Development Programme having been granted formal planning permission in 2016. I look forward to working with the Board, shareholders and executive team to help the business to fulfill its potential over the coming years."

Roy Griffins said: "Over the past ten years London City has shown how much good a responsible, well managed airport can do for its neighbourhood, its city, the country. Between 2006 and 2016 the number of passengers using the airport almost doubled, from 2.4m to over 4.5m, reinforcing London City's reputation as the UK’s leading business airport. I am proud to have been a part of that success story and I wish Sir Terry, the London City Board and the executive team every success in the airport’s continuing journey."

David Fison has also joined the London City Airport Board in January 2017 as an independent non-executive director bringing along with him extensive experience with delivery of large capex projects and technical expertise. David Fison is currently non-executive chairman of Pontoon Solutions and was the Chief Executive of Skanska UK from 1993 to 2009 and Managing Director of Balfour Beatty plc in the 1990s.
