First Bus drivers shift into top gear with new uniform

First Bus drivers across the UK will be seen travelling in a brand new uniform over the coming months as the business strives to make its drivers the best dressed on the roads.

The company recognised the need to update its uniform and provide all its drivers, females in particular, with a more modern and comfortable wardrobe. It held a consultation with employees from across the country to find out how the uniform could be improved.

In response to employee feedback First Bus has introduced an entire new wardrobe for its drivers, with top pieces including: tailored blouses for female drivers, body warmers, new “trainer” style shoes and an innovative “sholo” (shirt meets polo) top, with First Bus thought to be just the second company to introduce the new garment in the UK. The updated blouses for female drivers now includes hidden modesty buttons, which aim to help female drivers feel more comfortable.

Giles Fearnley, Managing Director of First Bus UK, said: “Our drivers are our ambassadors, so it is important that they not only look the part but their uniform is comfortable and functional to wear. We are therefore proud to be now rolling out a new driver uniform, which has already been trialled in depots across the UK and has received positive feedback from colleagues.”

Phil Harland, Director of Client Services at Dimensions, supplier of the new First Bus uniform, said: “The Team at Dimensions has been working collaboratively with First Bus to bring about the first significant change to the uniform in many years. We’ve worked with colleagues every step of the way to shape the new range, from giving us feedback on the current uniform to trialling the actual garments. We’re all very excited about the new designs and garments that are going to be introduced, which we believe will be a big hit with all the staff.”
