The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK, in collaboration with the Geographical Association, has produced a suite of logistics and transport resources for use in schools and educational environments.

In order to raise the profile of the profession and the opportunities available CILT and the Geographical Association have designed eight lesson plans, with accompanying material, to be used in schools and educational settings.

The sessions will be launched later today at the Geographical Association’s Annual Conference in Manchester by Alan Parkinson, Head of Geography, King’s Ely Junior, Cambridgeshire.

The resources address a number of pressing issues through engaging enquiry questions that explore a range of aspects of transport and logistics. The resources will develop greater geographical knowledge and understanding and encourage students to apply this knowledge in real world contexts.

Participating students will also improve a range of skills that are important in the workplace including communication, numeracy, IT, problem solving and team work.

Commenting on the launch, Kevin Richardson FCILT, Chief Executive, CILT, said: ‘Working with our partners, the Geographical Association, we are pleased to be able to offer these resources to schools and the education sector. These resources will enable us to promote the vast and varied opportunities available in the logistics and transport profession to the younger generation and encourage more young people to choose a career in logistics and transport.’
