Geodis launches ‘out-of-hours’ deliveries for busy city stores in Scotland

GEODIS UK, part of the leading global logistics and supply chain operator group GEODIS, is bringing a bit of Continental flair to Scotland with an  ‘Out-of-Hours’ offering to make life easier for busy retailers.

Inspired by the success of GEODIS’s ‘Out-of-Hours’ services already in daily use throughout France, the new out of hours offering currently operates to five Scottish cities - Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Dundee and Aberdeen.

Designed with retailers in mind, it is especially suited to retail fashion stores that want to get new stock out onto the rails before opening time in order to free up staff to serve customers on the shop floor.

Indeed it is a solution which has already been embraced by a leading European fashion retailer keen to take advantage of this innovative service.

The preference for out-of-hours deliveries to the retail sector is growing, particularly for city centre stores and shopping malls. The benefits can be substantial for both retailers and logistics providers; improved stock flow; less disruption on the shop floor; shorter journey times and reductions in fuel consumption.

Stock arrives at the GEODIS UK depot in Stirling, Scotland, in the evening where goods are loaded onto three out-bound vehicles that deliver to stores in the five cities before 7am the next day.

GEODIS UK has responsibility for prioritising deliveries and planning routes to ensure that collections are in stores before 7am, liaising with security and in some cases entering the stores during the night to unload pallets and remove packaging.

Returns – an important aspect of fashion retailing – can also be handled by GEODIS UK which will collect them then transport them back from its Stirling depot. The company can provide simulations to show how the system works.

Kevin Huskie, GEODIS Regional Manager for the North and Scotland, said: “We are always looking to develop new solutions that can be tailored to our customers’ requirements.

“By developing our ‘Out-of-Hours’ offering we have the ideal logistics solution for the retail sector which enables GEODIS to be a growth partner for customers..”

Security, too, is important for retailers and GEODIS has recently invested around £80,000 in new IT and security system at its depot in Stirling where shipments arrive. Moreover before starting a contract, GEODIS will visit stores to fully understand the requirements of store managers and ensure that GEODIS staff are familiar with the delivery and security arrangements.

GEODIS has a strong pedigree in the fashion sector, having worked for years with top UK designers distributing high-value clothing and accessories into fashion stores across France.
