Routes to Chartered Membership
There are four routes by which you may satisfy the educational requirements for Chartered Membership.
The Institute's Own Qualifications - route 1
Holders of the CILT(UK) Advanced Diploma automatically satisfy the educational requirement. However, the criteria for experience and level of responsibility must also be met to ensure a successful application for Chartered Membership.
Accredited Exempting Degree - route 2
If you hold one of these qualifications you automatically satisfy the educational requirement, providing any specific conditions laid down for a particular award are met. Note: This applies only to the specific qualifications on the register - only those have been assessed and formally accredited as meeting the Key Knowledge Areas.
If you have of one of these listed qualifications you will also receive credit for one year of the five-year experience requirement. Accredited sandwich degrees involving an industrial placement give two years' credit as will the combination of an accredited first and higher degree. The two years at senior level must, however, still be achieved before Chartered Membership can be gained.

The Professional Entry Route - route 3
If you cannot meet the specific requirements of the other routes but you have at least five years' experience at the level defined by the Experience Criteria, you may be able to gain Chartered Membership through presentation of evidence to show that you satisfy the required criteria for knowledge. Where evidence of achievement of one or more of the necessary knowledge criteria cannot be provided in this way you may satisfy the remaining requirements by any agreed method. Such methods include a professional interview.

Accredited Schemes - route 4
4a. Freight Transport Association Management Training Programme
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) operates its own management training programme and achievement of certain modules can lead to Chartered Membership through the Professional Interview for those managers with at least five years' good quality transport experience. See Other Accredited Schemes.
4b. Accredited In-Company Graduate Development Schemes
The Institute accredits the in-house graduate development schemes operated by a number of organisations. The scheme applies to those graduates with honours degrees that are not on the list of CILT(UK)-accredited degrees but are in some relevant subject. Employees of the companies who participate in these schemes gain access to Chartered Membership through the professional interview, typically in a shorter time than would otherwise be the case. Each company scheme is individually accredited but the general requirements are as shown in Other Accredited Schemes.
4c. UK Military Qualifications
Chartered Membership will be appropriate for those MoD or Service personnel at or above the rank of Lieutenant Commander/Major/Squadron Leader/Stores Officer Grade B/Higher Executive Officer or equivalent. Exceptionally, junior officers may be considered if relevant and recognised qualifications are held and Warrant Officers who believe they can demonstrate the necessary logistics experience to qualify for the grade of Chartered Member can apply for this level of membership. See Other Accredited Schemes.
