David Storey

David left school in 1989 at 16, and for the next 8 years worked for a number of organisations including British Rail as a Junior Railmen. In 1994, David went to Salford College for 1 year studying Leisure & Tourism at Intermediate level. The completion of this academic qualification kick-started a return to the UK Railway industry in 1995, employed by the then Inter-City West Coast (BR) for a further 2yrs.

As a result of the railways becoming privatised in 1997, I changed jobs and continued my career in the transport sector working for National Express and TDG until September 1998 which is when he embarked a 7-year period of studying full time as well as working part-time to pay for studies. This comprised 2 years at Salford College completing an advanced BTEC course in Leisure & Tourism; a further 3 years at John Moores University doing a BSc in Transport, and finally an MSc at Newcastle University in Transport Engineering and Operations.

David took a gap year between finishing his BSc and starting the MSc in Newcastle. During this period he worked for the railways once again in addition to CMA, CGM (French shipping company).

Since graduating from University in December 2005, David has principally been employed by Arup in a Railway Operational Planning role. Prior to joining Arup, a small period of time was spent with Scott Wilson Railways in a similar role. . Post- December 2005, much experience has been gained in the consultancy field, working on both large and small scale projects for public and private sector clients in the railway sector. During this time period my previous acquired skills, knowledge, experiences and attributes have been applied to these roles with positive results coming to fruition both for all concerned. Furthermore, David has a strong working relationship with his former course leader at John Moores in Liverpool where he is a visiting lecturer in Railway studies.

Finally, the notable achievement in late 2008 for David was becoming a chartered member of the CILT, and this status is recognition of the above. Following on from the CMILT acknowledgement, David has become an active member of the YPF, both locally and nationally predominately planning events. In addition, he plays an important role in the West Midlands arm of the CILT by being a Committee member, again arranging events etc.
