Winner:   DPD

The DPD approach was holistic and thorough and included all aspects of logistics and vehicle operations. However, they went further and included impressive results on site waste and transit packaging.  Where DPD really scored was in fostering their own innovations, including modified aerodynamic trailer design with built in photo-voltaic panels, also in rainwater harvesting, site management and even recycling their own redundant building materials.  DPD also had an active approach to supporting ongoing improvements, and to getting their community engaged in caring for the environment in and around their site.   The DPD approach was clear and precisely presented: environmental improvements were measured and unproven results challenged.  Finally the DPD approach commends itself to all companies operating in the logistics sector: at a time of soaring energy and fuel costs this approach demonstrates a rigour that gives the company the best possible chance to control rising costs  of every kind. They have raised the bar for this sector and set a challenge for others to achieve.
