Taking over the fragmented import operation for Marks & Spencer, from North Africa, Europe and South Asia, APL Logistics set about introducing an integrated and structured inbound supply operation. They introduced a robust supplier management programme, process simplification, better visibility of events, reduced lead-times, faster and more accurate communication, tighter management of transportation providers and applied best practice throughout.

This has achieved significant benefits for the client including inventory reductions, improved decision-making on movement requirements, consolidation of consignments, appropriate sized containers and service selection, improved data and document accuracy, all of which is monitored by KPIs. A process of continuous improvement has included vendor education programmes, local quality assurance programmes and a carbon footprint monitor.
