Chancellor's remorseless fuel duty policy 'counter productive’
The Institute says that the Chancellor’s Pre-Budget Report confirmation of yet another above inflation increase in fuel duty is counter productive in its penal impact on the logistics and transport sectors of the economy. CILT says that raising fuel costs in such a way constitutes an attack on fundamental and essential business operations and will not assist economic recovery but more likely impede it.

Logistics industry fit to fight flu pandemic - CILT Logmark survey reports
A recent survey from The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT) has shown that in 2009, 68% of major logistics and supply chain operations have specific plans in place for dealing with the possibility of a flu pandemic as part of their overall disaster recovery strategy. This compares with a figure of 43% in 2008. And, of those companies operating specific flu plans, almost two thirds (63%) include counter measures such as face masks, gloves and anti-virals in addition to the use of schedule reorganisations, overtime, agency staff and other arrangements.

Government transport policy ‘unconvincing’, says CILT
In response to government consultations, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) argues that urgent action is needed to ensure the UK’s transport network remains fit for purpose. Its position was endorsed by the Eddington and Stern reports, but CILT says that the Government’s formal response to these reports – Towards a Sustainable Transport System – is unconvincing on a number of levels.
