Speaker: John Wylde FCILT, Transport Author, Consultant
The idea of integrated or coordinated transport was used in legislation for most of the twentieth century, but never did it seem to be achievable because of the different interpretations of integration and often of political ideology and vested interests. This presentation will capture important events in the development of inland transport, concluding with a critical review of modern public transport provision in Britain.

Speaker: Moira Carter, National Donor Services Manager & Paul Milne, National Logistics Manager, Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service
The supply blood components for transfusion are truly unique in that it is difficult to think of another supply chain where the starting material has a choice! Blood is a commodity and, like all other commodities, has its own supply and demand patterns, storage requirements and shelf life characteristics. Unlike most other commodities its availability at the right place, at the right time and in the right condition for the right patient can have an instant life or death impact. The product range manufactured from the donors' life saving gifts have variable shelf lives, from 2 days to 2 years.
This is a unique opportunity to hear two experts in the challenges of meeting the transfusion needs of patients in Scotland during the almost biblical last year; facind, anthrax, pandemic flu and the big freeze!
The meeting will feature a presentation followed by a short tour of the laboratory and donor centre and the organisers guarantee to release members unpunctured at the end of the visit (unless you really want)!

Speaker: Mike Robinson, Chief Executive, Royal Scottish Geographical Society
Maybe it is time to remind ourselves of the joy of travelling. Perhaps we should embrace a motto “he who goes softly goes safely, he who goes safely goes far” from Italy, the country that inspired the slow food movement.
Lower speed limits would lower carbon dioxide emissions more quickly and effectively than any other single measure. With the concerns about peak oil, is part of the route towards sustainable travel to slow down and sometimes leave the car behind?

The Strathspey Railway opened in 1978 a five-mile stretch of the original Highland Main Line from Aviemore to Boat of Garten as a heritage operation. Douglas Norris is a Director of the Railway, and looks at its development as a major asset to the tourist economy.
