Personalities

Immediate Past President: Professor Alan G Waller OBE FCILT 

Alan Waller is Vice-President for Supply Chain Innovation at the international consultancy, Solving International. He is also a visiting Professor at the Centre for Logistics and Transportation at Cranfield School of Management.

He was Senior Logistics Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers and has spent over 25 years working on logistics and supply chain consultancy assignments with manufacturers, retailers and logistics service providers over a wide range of industries across Europe, North America and the Far East. He directed the Global Manufacturing Industry Consultancy Programme and was also the EMEA Regional Director for Supply Chain Consulting.

During this period, Alan Waller has also been active in developing new initiatives for the education and training of logistics professionals, and, in addition to lecturing posts at Leicester and Warwick University Business Schools, was the founder and first Director of the Distribution Studies Unit at Cranfield, now the Cranfield Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Cranfield School of Management. In addition to his professorship, he is also President of the Cranfield Management Association Logistics Network and teaches on Masters programmes in supply chain management at the universities of Cambridge, Gent, Louvain, Lisbon and Oporto.

In 1998 he was awarded the premier Sir Robert Lawrence Award by the Institute of Logistics for his contribution to logistics.

Professor Waller has lectured widely throughout Europe and the United States, Canada, Australia, Africa and Japan and has published numerous articles and papers on supply chain, logistics and related subjects.

In the 2006 New Year Honours list, Alan Waller was appointed OBE for services to logistics. Alan says: ‘This is a delightful surprise and a wonderful start for 2006. It is an excellent reflection of the standing of our profession and on the work being done by the Institute and other organisations.’
