For outstanding development in information technology or management.
WINNER: Destiny Plc and DSV Road
DSV Road needed to cut down on the time and administration in managing consignment notes, tracking and proof of delivery. A key requirement was to make the new system easy to use, especially for foreign and contract drivers. The customer now signs the consignment form using the Destiny digital pen and upon ticking a box, both data and image is uploaded via the driver's mobile phone. The phone can add the GPS location to provide a double check. The system has delivered the benefits expected and will be rolled out in other countries.
FINALIST: Indesit Company UK
Indesit has met the challenge of multi-drop urban delivery by the use of the latest technology, through the application of their End-to-End process. This encompasses order entry confirmation, stock movement and delivery scheduling to an agreed time window. Delivering over one million products to small retailers and consumers' homes Indesit are able to offer a 3 hour delivery window. Text updates provide a more precise predicted deliver time. The delivery team and driver are linked through rugged PDA computers, which have resulted in the saving of 1.2 million pieces of paper.
FINALIST: The PSL Group
As a major mover of books and magazines, PSL wanted to create a track and trace service for the Publishing sector, which would deliver benefits in their unique environment. Combining ideas from warehouse operators, their customers and book fairs, they can now provide web access using book titles, ISBN and order numbers, with links to commercial book ordering systems and commonly used tools. An auditable service for ‘sale and return' items enables international buyers in books and magazines to reconcile credits more quickly. The new system has raised their profile within the industry and has helped to grow their business in Scandinavia.
