CHEP Logo

Sponsored by CHEP

For promoting excellence and outstanding achievement in the use of materials handling equipment and technology at any stage throughout the supply chain, including raw materials, manufacturing, distribution and retail operations.

And the winner is:

  • Seachill and Zetes

Seachill and Zetes

Winner - Seachill and Zetes
The Seachill objective to improve shipping and despatch processes was successfully achieved through an effective and innovative system to meet the increased demand from Tesco who required a Sort Order Lead Time (SOLT). This changed the time of order from 6.00am to 6.00pm; 10.00 am and 10.00 pm. Seachill needed to find a system that accommodate the SOLT and at the same time reduce errors and by making the picking and dispatch process more efficient. The process from Zetes with a Visidot Reader simultaneously scans hundreds of assets in a single pass and successfully reduced claims significantly despite a major increase in volume. The fast deployment and return on investment was recouped in 9 months faster than expected, the early benefit was primarily achieved because the claims was reduce below the forecast levels.

Finalists:

  • PalletForce Plc
The move to a new 400,000 square foot distribution hub prompted the PalletForce management to look for significant improvements in loading/unloading times, increased information flow on tracking goods; working smarter with optimum safety and reduced carbon emissions and reduced costs. The idea was to create intelligent forklift trucks that could combine scanning and dynamic weighing that could be integrated into their IT system. While the technology is not new the combination was highly effective in delivering fast turnaround, less loading errors tracking and tracing pallets in real time and improving customer service. The system clearly has benefits in other applications such as cross docking.
