Young Professionals Event - Supporting Your Career Development

The North East Region recently held their Young Professionals event at the University of Hull's Logistics Institute (UHLI), Hull, East Yorkshire. The event was hosted by the Humber Group and attracted a record turnout of approximately 60 young professionals from around the region.

The event commenced with a buffet supper, which allowed guests an opportunity to network. Sarah Croft, Humber Group Chairman then started the evening proceedings by giving a warm welcome and introduction to everyone at the event.

The young professionals (a mixture of logistics students and practitioners) enjoyed the evenings line up. Peter Huggins, the CILT Knowledge Centre Manager gave a fascinating talk about the resources available through the Knowledge Centre. The Knowledge Centre houses one of the LARGEST specialist collections and most comprehensives sources of logistics and transport information in the world. This is one of the most beneficial service available to CILT members. Peter gave a practical and intuitive step by step guide to the resources available to CILT members, these included:

 

  • Access to databases like Business Source Premier
  • Access to newspaper articles from around the world
  • Access to company profiles and financial reports
  • And many other resources, the opportunities are endless!

We also were also delighted to welcome James Baden and Zoe Houghton from the UK's leading Logistics Recruitment Company MVP, who gave a talk on Logistics career opportunities. They gave an overview of their business and their client base and offered expert tips on how to draft CVs and covering letters, which all guest found very useful.
