Personalities
President: Richard Brown CBE FCILT
Richard is a senior figure in the passenger transport profession and his appointment confirms the Institute's position at the heart of passenger transport and logistics activities.
Richard Brown joined Eurostar in August 2002 and has worked in the UK rail industry for 30 years. He worked for National Express Group from 1996 as Chief Executive, Trains and, latterly, as Group Commercial Director and Board member. Richard was also Chairman of the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) in 2000 and 2001, during one of the most challenging periods for the UK rail industry.
Richard says: ‘I am honoured and flattered to have been offered this role. The transport and logistics professions are increasingly important and this is a great chance to build on the work of the Institute in attracting young professionals into our industry.
‘I also want to take the opportunity to shift the focus of transport professionals even further onto the problems of climate change. Passenger transport and logistics operators should be playing still more of a role in reducing the environmental impact of travel and transport.'
Richard took over as President in May 2008. He will succeed the current President, Professor Alan G Waller OBE FCILT. Alan says of the appointment: ‘This is excellent news for the Institute. Richard brings with him a wealth of experience at the cutting edge of transport operations.
‘The role of President is for me an excellent chance to give something back to the profession. Richard will bring his own unique talents to bear and ensure the work of the Institute remains firmly in the public's eye.'
