What is the benefit to my organisation of an individual student project?

The organisation benefits by getting an objective and independent analysis of an issue by someone not caught up with day-to-day responsibilities. The output will be a report but the questions raised during the project and exposure to the latest techniques and approaches provide added value. Practical solutions may be implemented and evaluated within or as a result of the project.

Those defining and setting up the project set the limit to the subject range of the project within Supply Chain/Logistics or Transport/Transport Planning.

The employer also has input into the project through mentoring the student. Such a role should form part of the individual's staff development.

Many companies decide to employ students that have undertaken projects with them. It offers an opportunity to 'try before you buy'.
