Mentor Scheme
The protege's role
Before you commit to mentoring, ask yourself why you want a mentor and what you hope to achieve. To keep your end of the bargain, you must have a willingness to participate, to learn and to develop, even when problems arise. So you'll need to be flexible. You'll also need to be willing to take ownership of your learning, which means being self aware and having the ability to receive constructive feedback.
You will also need to be prepared to set appropriate outcomes and goals, and undertake personally the solutions and actions that are needed to achieve the outcomes. If you are to play your part in driving the relationship forward you might have to make lasting change from your current position and to respond to positive challenges or conflicts.
Perhaps, most importantly, you must want to develop.
