Professional Sectors & Forums - The Last 50 Metres
Chairman: Jonathan Kittow MILT
This Forum was established to discuss the issues associated with the replenishment of retail stores. 'The Last 50 Metres' refers to getting store-delivered product from the vehicle to the shelves.
Objectives
- To identify relevant case studies from different sectors (to go and see)
- To understand the (whole) supply chain/value stream, focused on the last 50 metres
- To capture and share knowledge
- To act as a 'sounding board' to sense-check proposals and gain feedback from peers
- To help develop the financial case for initiatives
Events
Reports & Presentations
- The Last 50 Metres - What is it Costing You? - February 2007

- The Last 50 Metres - CILT(UK) & Superdrug Presentation - 14 February 2007

- Last 50 Metres Workshop Presentation - Wednesday 12 October

To date the Forum has undertaken three site visits:
- Boots, Nottingham
- Rolls Royce, Derby
- Sainsburys, Didcot
These visits have given the group the opportunity to explore some of the issues behind aligning a supply chain to meet the needs of the end customer. It is now planned to explore some of the key issues in more detail. In particular, the group will focus on space planning and its implications on packaging and in-store handling.
