Professional Sectors & Forums - Ports/Maritime/Waterways
Welcome to the Ports, Maritime & Waterways Forum.
Joint Chairmen - Mark Rowbotham and Geoff Catterick
Great Britain is an Island Nation. The Channel Tunnel is the only land connection to Europe and therefore over 95% of our trade is carried by sea. The Ports, Maritime and Waterways Forum leads for the CILT(UK) membership on the issues affecting Logistics and Transport in the maritime environment. The common headings for work in the sector are:
- Deep Sea Container
- Short Sea Feeder and Container
- Dry Bulk
- Liquid Bulk
- RoRo Ferry and systems traffic
- Offshore, oil/gas/tidal/wind farm etc.
- Coastal, inland and canal traffic, commercial and pleasure
- Freight by water
- Modal shifts
- Renewable energy & ports
If there are other topics on which you would like a presentation please contact us and we will try and source an experienced speaker.

The Ports, Maritime and Waterways Forum has been established for a number of years now, with dedicated and active commitees in both the north and south of the country.
Various presentations, visits and events have been arranged for the benefit of members and it is felt the time is now right to further expand our commitees and activities.
We would greatly value your input, involvement and expertise in enhancing the professionalism of the Forum. This will enable the Forum to respond to the real challenges and needs of the Ports, Maritime and Waterways sector. This is important because as an island nation the ports are our beating heart, the waterways our logistic arteries and shipping our life's blood. Please find the survey here.
This is your Forum and we need to hear from you. We look forward to receiving your response by 16th September 2011.
Kind regards
Geoff Catterick FCILT

New groups
We are considering forming a Ports and Terminals Security Working Group within the ports. With the forthcoming 2012 Olympics it is important to consider how current security operations may impact on port operators and if additional measures are required. In addition, members must always be aware of current requirements and any forthcoming legislation.
Anyone interested should contact the Forum Chairmen.
The Forum is indebted to Russ Garbutt FCILT, and Bill Oakes FCILT for their invaluable contributions.
