CILT(UK) North East Region.

Humber Group Dinner Dance held Friday 24th April 2009.

This annual event was a not only a great evening but also a night of surprises.

The group chair - Sarah Croft - welcomed 155 members and their guests who enjoyed fine food and after the official part of the evening dancing to the aces showband.

Principal speakers were Nicholas Hildyard - former High Sheriff of the east riding of Yorkshire who recalled his early years with some amusing anecdotes also commenting on the current state of the economy. The second speaker was CILT president Richard Brown who reflected on his time as the institute's president and also gave an upbeat message for the future.

During the evening a presentation of two prints depicting all modes of transport was made by regional chairman Geoff Catterick to Bill Oakes to mark his forthcoming retirement on 30th June as north east regional officer. Bill was accompanied by his wife Sue who was presented with a bouquet of flowers. More was to follow as the Institute's meritorious award was presented by Richard Brown to Bill to mark the tremendous contribution that he has made to promote the Institute during the past 47 years. For once (and maybe the only time in his career) Bill was left speechless!!.

It was then Bill's turn when he presented the prestigious Richard McLeish award to Sarah Croft to acknowledge her progress and achievement in transport logistics. The award comprises a trophy, certificate, and a cheque for £100.00.

The other principal guest was Dave Roberts and his wife who represented Humber Rescue - "saving lives on the Humber estuary" our chosen recipient of the raffle proceeds - and the total raised will exceed just over £2000.00.

We also welcomed Janet Eady and Alex Burns from the executive at Corby.

Once again a successful evening and the contribution made by the dinner/dance committee and the very generous donation of prizes is both acknowledged and appreciated.
