All Aboard for Catch the Bus Week
People across Greater Manchester have taken part in a social media campaign that highlights their favourite places to travel to by bus as part of a nationwide initiative.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is supporting Catch the Bus Week – www.catchthebusweek.co.uk – a nationwide initiative running from 28 April to 4 May that aims to get more people to travel by bus and highlight the benefits of bus travel.
TfGM used the social media channel Twitter to ask the travelling public what places they would recommend as a great place to travel to by bus, with responses including Bury Market, Smithills Hall in Bolton, The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Castlefield, Heaton Park and Glossop.
In addition to the social media campaign, TfGM will also be promoting Catch the Bus Week through a series of advertisements on local radio to promote the use of buses as an efficient and cost effective way to travel in Greater Manchester.
The week long initiative is in its second year and is organised by the sustainable transport group Greener Journeys, who urge people to consider using buses as an alternative to their car for selected journeys.
Howard Hartley, Head of Bus for TfGM, said: “Buses play a vital role in keeping Greater Manchester moving and are a cleaner, more sustainable transport option that is cost effective for those who regularly use them.
“We are happy to support any initiative that encourages more people to use buses and experience those benefits for themselves.”
