A recent survey showed that when it comes to careers, young people say they are most influenced by parents, websites, teachers and friends as well as the more formal information, advice and guidance (IAG) provided by schools, colleges and universities.
Parents, relatives, and friends of parents are a key source of first-hand information about working life and career pathways and will help young people to make decisions about their future careers.
However, the world of work is fast-changing and it is important to keep up to date with the current jobs market to know what options are available.
Without first-hand experience of the logistics, supply chain and transport, many people may be led to think that the sector is simply about “trucks and sheds” and that is understandable as that is the most visible image of the sector. However, far from being a sector that offers limited career opportunities, the sector is characterised by career pathways that lead directly to senior management roles for those with right skills and drive for success.
