  • Andy Clark, Senior Rail Programme Manager, Midlands Connect

Please join this evening presentation with Steve Rothwell and Andy Clark to hear more about Midlands Connect’s recently published Strategic Transport Plan.

Steve, Midlands Connect’s Strategy Refresh Manager, has played a key role in developing the Strategic Transport Plan, and will talk through the plan itself and also some of the technical work that has underpinned it.

Midlands Connect is the Sub National Transport Body for the Midlands, which researches, develops and progresses transport projects that will benefit the region, its people and its businesses. In an ever-changing world, the Midlands Connect priorities remain the same - to create a fairer, greener and stronger Midlands.

The world is a very different place since Midlands Connect published its regional transport strategy in 2017. Our country has undergone profound changes as we recover from the social and economic effects of Covid-19, navigate business and trade following our exit from the European Union and address the global climate emergency.

The Strategic Transport Plan addresses these challenges, recommending transport projects that can create a more productive, prosperous and sustainable Midlands.

Andy, a Senior Rail Programme Manager, will then provide detail on Midlands Engine Rail, which is an ambitious portfolio of rail schemes, including Midlands Rail Hub. Encouraging more people to use the rail network is an essential step in reducing transport-related carbon emissions. The Midlands Engine Rail programme includes a series of improvements to boost rail connectivity across the Midlands. The interventions we’re suggesting include: making journeys faster, allowing trains to run more frequently and creating new connections that don’t currently exist (for example, new services linking Coventry with Leicester).

Following Steve and Andy’s presentation, there will be plenty of time for questions.
