Liverpool: Junction plans paused

03 March 2022/Categories: Active Travel & Travel Planning, Bus & Coach, Transport Planning

Liverpool City Council had originally planned to demolish the flyover above The Rocket junction, which feeds into the M62, and create a roundabout and tunnel. The seven-year project to upgrade the junction was due to start in 2023 but has now been put on pause.

Liverpool City Council is to encourage greener modes of travel and say this decision has been sparked by the impact of the pandemic and new air quality policies.

Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said:

“So much has changed since this scheme was originally commissioned, and this is an opportune moment to look at it with a fresh pair of eyes.”
