Minister set to open the East Midlands Logistics Centre in Derby

13 July 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain

The Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin MP will be visiting Derby to open the iconic Olivetti Building, for newly formed emlc.space, on the 24th July 2015. The project is the brainchild of the multi-award winning Fresh Logistics Services, and will be bringing new jobs to Derby as a part of their continued expansion. Mr McLoughlin, will be arriving to open the site at Downing Road, Derby at 09.30am in front of an invited audience of local dignitaries, business leaders, national bodies, trade organisations and the press.

The emlc.space project is the idea of Fresh Logistics Services Managing Director, Alan White, and is designed to offer serviced offices, meeting rooms and conference areas for use by the logistics, supply chain and associated industries. Alan states “It has taken a lot of hard work by the team here to get to this point and we are all extremely proud of the results. Creating a venue where logistics professionals can meet, in a complex filled by logistics related companies seems such an obvious proposition, but sites like this do not seem to exist. The site is perfect for a range of uses, from hosting meetings & conferences, to holding interviews and hosting clients. Rooms and space can be booked for a few hours or you can relocate your company to join the East Midlands Logistics Centre (emlc.space) hub”.

The day will also feature the buildings original architect Ted Cullinan CBE, who designed the building in the 1970’s for Olivetti and has since won the Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The building is still used as a meeting point for architectural interest groups in Derby.

Chair of Derbyshire CILT, Tony Foster has been watching the project with a close eye as he feels that innovative projects like this, bringing together logistics companies in regional clusters, will be extremely important to the future of the industry as a whole.

Fresh Logistics Services, a temperature controlled logistics solutions company set up by Alan and his wife Alex in 2009, were runners up at the recent Derby Evening Telegraph Business Awards held at the Roundhouse, Derby, hosted by Paul Ross and Anne Davies. The last 12 months has also seen them crowned ‘Refrigerated Courier of the Year’ at the TCS&D Awards, ‘International Logistics Company of the Year’ at the Insider International Trade Awards. They also picked up the ‘Social Corporate Responsibility’ award at the SHD Logistics Awards and were finalists in two categories at the East Midlands Family Business Awards.
