Bus travellers will be able to ride for two days for the price of one in a bid to get more people using the service. Day tickets bought on First Portsmouth buses on Saturdays can also be used on Sundays for free.
The offer starts this week and will run until January 31.
First Solent general manager Dervla McKay said the company wanted to inspire people to fulfill their new year’s resolutions of using the bus more often.
Ms McKay said: ‘We are working hard to further improve bus services in and attract even more passengers. I’m really pleased we’re introducing a fares promotion in January.
‘I’m sure it will be welcomed by existing passengers and help attract new customers.
‘We’re launching the promotion at the perfect time as people form their new year’s resolutions, travel to the January sales or search for family friendly activities to keep the children entertained.
‘We also appreciate that family budgets can be tight after Christmas, more so than at any other time of the year, so our offer makes using the bus even better value.’
The cost of a day ticket on Saturday is £4.20.
First bus services are offering different deals for January across the country.
The firm’s Southampton branch has reduced the price of its weekly ticket from £13 to £9.50.
First spokeswoman Alison Henderson said: ‘Each service has decided which offer they think will work best.
‘In Portsmouth, we know that Portsmouth Football Club is playing a home to Oxford later in the month so people will be able to use the offer to go and watch the football and then make a trip to do their shopping on the next day.’
