DPD becomes first delivery company to let customers choose their own one hour delivery slot

14 July 2016/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management

The UK's favourite parcel delivery company DPD has launched an innovative new service in conjunction with ASOS that will allow the online fashion retailer's customers to say exactly when they would like their parcels to be delivered.

The new service - called ‘Precise' - will put ASOS customers in complete control of their deliveries by letting them select their own, exact one-hour delivery slot on the day of their choosing.

Currently, ASOS customers are notified by text or email of their next day, one-hour delivery slot by DPD. With Precise they will be able to choose to accept the original delivery slot via the notification, or select their preferred delivery day and their specific one hour delivery slot via DPD's ‘in-flight' options. Precise deliveries can be arranged for anytime in the following seven days between 11am and 5pm.

DPD's CEO Dwain McDonald commented: "Working closely with great retailers like ASOS means we are constantly tuned in to what consumers want and that helps us invest in technology and develop the kinds of services online retailers really value. I think Precise gives ASOS a real advantage at a time when all retailers are looking to innovate in the delivery space and wow customers.

"We're focused on making parcel delivery as ‘personal' as possible by using the best technology available to put customers in complete control of their deliveries. Giving customers timely information they can really use and a great choice of delivery options is genuinely liberating."

Matt Rogers, for ASOS commented; "Precise is another first for ASOS and a huge leap forward on our customer focused delivery proposition. Our customers love getting their deliveries quickly and tell us they want control and choice over how and when their parcels arrive. Precise gives them exactly that.

"Working with DPD allows us to keep improving the delivery experience for our customers and staying competitive in the marketplace"

In May, DPD launched the ground-breaking Your DPD app which enables customers to set their own delivery preferences including the ability to request that drivers always avoid certain times of the day, such as the school run. Using new smartphone geo-location based technology, Your DPD can also automatically alert the DPD driver when an app user returns home. So if a parcel couldn't be successfully delivered earlier in the day, the driver can now make another delivery before they finish their round.
