DHL wins new three-year contract with Toyota in the UK

18 October 2016/Categories: Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management

DHL Supply Chain has been awarded a new three-year contract to manage the parts distribution and same day service warehousing for Toyota, one of the world’s largest car manufacturers.

The contract will see DHL provide a range of aftermarket services for Toyota in the UK, including distribution of approximately 200,000 lines each year. Deliveries will take place through the night using DHL’s aftermarket collaborative platform. During the day, deliveries will be made using the same day service to all UK dealers, covering both the Toyota and Lexus brands. As part of the commitment, dealers will receive parts before 8am, enabling them to meet customer demand more effectively and increase flexibility in the supply chain.

By drawing on DHL’s expertise in aftermarket solutions, Toyota is future-proofing its supply chain to ensure it meets its service level agreements with dealers, supporting its long-term relationships.

“Our new partnership with Toyota builds on our proven expertise in the UK automotive sector and supports the continued global growth of our customers,” explains Martin Dougherty, VP of Business Development, Automotive at DHL Supply Chain. “As the automotive aftermarket grows more complex, so too do the logistics challenges involved. We are looking forward to working closely with Toyota to deliver innovation and increased efficiencies over the next three years.”

DHL’s relationship with Toyota started in the 1990’s and continues to this day with “vehicle off road” services to Toyota dealers and parts depots across Europe. In addition DHL provides marketing production services and print management for the Lexus brand through its specialist marketing supply chain company Tag, in Belgium. These new aftermarket services mark another milestone in the growing relationship between the two companies.

The latest contract builds on DHL’s continued success in the automotive sector following recent partnerships with other leading OEMs and tier suppliers. As part of its continuous improvement agenda, DHL is constantly seeking ways to help OEMs more accurately predict demand for automotive spare parts. Recent research from the global logistic leader highlights the untapped power of data-driven insight for the supply chain.
