Transaid is delighted to announce that our next African cycle challenge has been launched. Taking place between Friday 21st September and Sunday 30th September 2018, this amazing challenge sees cyclists take on a 490 kilometre ride from Lusaka to the breath taking Victoria Falls in Zambia.

Landlocked in Southern Africa, Zambia is fed and shaped by its rivers, lakes and, of course, its waterfalls, the most famous of which is the Victoria Falls which at 2km wide and 103m deep are the largest falls in the world. Massive lakes, rich wetlands and breathtaking African sunsets all contribute to the country’s scenic splendor. In addition to its natural wonders Zambia offers a taste of its diverse tribal and cultural heritage through its craftwork, music, dance and traditional ceremonies.

This 480 kilometre ride will see you taking on dirt tracks, undulating terrain, take you through tiny villages, through open bush, and see you finishing at the incredible Victoria Falls.

Transaid has been running African cycling challenges since 2006 with the last, Cycle South Africa 2017, raising over £227,000 for our essential road safety and access to health care programmes. Click here to see what a Transaid challenge is like and to hear from some past participants.

Others have said:“Cycle Tanzania ticked all the boxes I thought it would and then some more… a fantastic personal challenge, a magical African experience and £130k to a great cause. We didn’t just visit Africa – riding it by bike meant that we lived Africa…up close and personal, the people, the landscape, the wildlife… a truly fantastic experience.” Dave Howorth, Director and Senior Partner at SCALA group.

– Finishing at the largest waterfalls in the world
– Visit Transaid’s professional driver training project
– Get close to nature with impala, zebra and hundreds of bird species likely to be spotted during the ride
