Operations leader with 15 years’ experience gained across numerous primary and secondary transport & warehousing operations including FMCG, Fresh & Frozen Distribution, fleet procurement and alternative fuels application in the transport industry. Most recently involved in the application of diversifying transport applications gaining efficiencies end to end.
Always searching ways of continuous improvement, and working in a collaborative positive culture. Recently heavily involved in the introduction of apprenticeship schemes in the work place with the successful introduction of a HGV apprenticeship program.

Rachael has over 20 years’ experience within the Logistic Training Industry. She possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise of the industries training requirements whilst also realising the operational constraints that the industry faces.
As a true advocate of driver development, her role as Director at Transport Training Academy enables her to promote the benefits of upskilling and training to both companies and individuals alike.
Rachael is extremely passionate about promoting the industry as a viable career path to the next generation and is a Career Enterprise Advisor for Logistics and Transport in the county.
Rachael is happily married to John and they love nothing more than spending their spare time with their children, grandchildren and dogs.
My name is Neil Caldwell and I have been a member of CILT for over 30 years and an Institute Fellow since 1997.
I held the position of CILT Regional Officer North West until February last year having worked with a fantastic group of local volunteers for over 10 years. During that tenure I also played a key role in the development of the industry award winning Think Logistics Initiative as Project Manager, an exceptional opportunity to work again with a wide range of our industry professionals and the educational charity, Career Ready, to open the eyes of young people to see the world of career opportunities in Logistics and Transport.
Throughout my career in Logistics and Transport I have played an active role with FTA (now Logistics UK) and also CILT both locally and nationally. I have been North West Regional Chair on FTA Freight Council and also CILT North West Region Committee as well as attending National Council of both organisations.
An enjoyable and successful career, I have undertaken a series of senior management roles across a wide range of logistics, transport and supply chain operations. That experience has been gained in large scale operations management and business development within manufacturing, retail and third party organisations, frequently involving the planning and delivery of large scale and complex change management programmes. Some of the most rewarding aspects have always come through the coaching and development of the incredible teams and people I have worked with over the years. Thank goodness Logistics is still a people business and I hope I am not alone when I look forward eagerly to the time when we rebalance digital and physical activities.
For now and the future, more family time and choice on business involvement is a special bonus as is the time to (hopefully) add some value and occasional common sense to the future development of our Institute as a volunteer committee member.
After a long distinguished Military career of 24yrs in the Infantry, Brian spent the last 6yrs of his career within the Transport & Logistics Sector, predominately in the role as the civilian equivalent of a Senior Transport Logistics Manager and as a Driving Examiner for all licence categories.
On leaving the Army and after a short mis-guided career direction at a Transport Logistics Company, for the past 3yrs Brian finally found his niche as an Associate with Transport Training Academy delivering Driver CPC, Transport Management & various other Logistic courses.
Brian is extremely proud to have served in the British Army and this sound grounding and, has given him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the Logistics Profession, along with his diligence to paperwork and to his instruction of which he is more than happy to share with his candidates.
Brian’s first love is ‘Diesel’ their black lab, closely followed by his wife Carol. For which they love to spend weekends walking in country parks & hill walking.
Transport is in Roberts’s blood and he grew up surrounded by vehicles. He has been a member of CILT for over 40 years and has worked in the industry since 1967. During this time he has worked in management roles, C+E driver and FLT instructor, all of which has provided him with the vast amount of knowledge and experience that he has.
Since his retirement he is still actively involved in transport in the background however he is spending much more time staying active and taking on board grandad duties with his 14 year old granddaughter and the families crazy 2 year old Yorkshire terrier.
He can honestly say that his time in transport has been a great smile all round and he has met many friends and colleagues through the industry who he remains firm friends with to this day.
Julie comes with many years valuable experience within the Transport industry, having worked as a C+E driver, in varied roles.
Julie has been at Transport Training Academy for 6 years, as their LGV instructor, QCF Assessor and Module 4 Examiner. Julie transitioned careers, swapping her life as a Medical PA within the NHS, to that of one behind the wheel and has never looked back!
Julie brings 6 years past experience at board level, having been a non-exec director of a housing management company and chairperson of a local housing management board.
In her spare time, Julie can be found enjoying time with her family and grandchildren, or out on the road on a motorbike, or in one of several modern classic vehicles.
Martin started work in 1970 as a seasonal bus conductor for Crosville in Rhyl, before moving onto the company’s traffic training scheme. He worked in various locations in Cheshire and mid Wales prior to becoming District Traffic Superintendent at Macclesfield in 1975. After deregulation of bus services in 1986, Martin moved to Crewe as District Manager, and relocated several times until the transfer of Crosville in that area to North Western (a sister British Bus company). After various locations in Cheshire and Greater Manchester, Martin moved to Birkenhead on the takeover of Merseybus by Arriva (formed by the Cowie group after the British Bus takeover), looking after Wirral and Cheshire operations. Martin’s next move was to Llandudno Junction as Head of Operations for Arriva in Wales, followed by his final move in 2010 as Head of Operations in Merseyside. Martin retired in 2017 but has since worked part time as a consultant for the Arriva group.
Martin is a Fellow of both the CILT and the Association of Road Risk Management. An advanced driver and tutor, Martin holds national tutoring qualifications with IAM Roadsmart and Rospa Advanced Drivers and Riders, tutoring car drivers for their advanced driving tests. He is also a DIAmond Advance motorist, a member of the High Performance club and has a BTEC Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction. A mountain biker, Martin enjoys the outdoors in Wales and the Lake District, weather permitting!.
Trevor joined the Chartered Institute of Transport in 1975 and was elected a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in November 2013.
Trevor has been running his own Consultancy Business, Transport Gateway Reviews Limited, since completing a five-year plan in 2014 to modernise and stabilise the business at Blackpool Transport whilst securing the sustainable future of the Company. As Managing Director, he was also responsible for the successful implementation of the operational aspects of the Blackpool Tramway upgrade to modern trams.
After forty years in the frontline of the bus and light rail industry, at all levels and for many different companies both public and private, Trevor has a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and business expertise. One of his current clients is Greater Manchester Travelcards Limited in Manchester where he advises them on providing the multi modal multi operator ticketing scheme.
David has worked in the Transport and Road Haulage industry for over 40 years. He has a vast amount of experience in all areas of this sector ranging from LGV driving to Transport Management. For the last 16 years of his career he has been the Managing Director of Transport Training Academy one of the UK’s leading logistics training companies and is an extremely prominent figure in promoting the industry. David is a full CPC holder, he was a DSA registered LGV instructor and 1 of 7 senior SAFED instructors.
David is married with 2 children and enjoys all aspects of family life. He is a keen rugby fan and enjoys watching a match or two. He has recently got back into riding motor bikes and has treated himself to a couple of nice weather bikes, his favourite being his Ducati 748.
Amanda is the founder of Tigerfish PR, a marketing and communications agency, based in the heart of the county, which specialises in working with supply chain businesses - dealing with the good news and the bad...
As well as being on the Lancashire CILT committee, Amanda is the Chair the Lancashire group of Chartered Institute of Public Relations, and she is fortunate to be a director of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.
And when she is not doing her various paid and voluntary activities, she is training for a half marathon.
