Green journeys becoming increasingly popular in the UK

03 January 2014/Categories: Industry News

Britons are increasingly choosing green journeys as they seek to reduce their carbon footprint.

A study released by the Department for Transport has discovered more people are walking and cycling when travelling to and from public transport hubs.

It is part of the government's door-to-door action plan, which seeks to make it easier for commuters to enjoy integrated sustainable journeys.

Among the success stories so far have been the £14.5 million invested in cycle facilities at railway stations - the number of cycle-rail journeys has increased from 14 million to 39 million in only four years.

On top of this, two new state-of-the-art bus interchanges have also been built at Rochdale and Mansfield.

Transport minister Baroness Kramer is encouraging people to make it their new year's resolution to adopt a more environmentally-friendly method of getting to work.

"Real life journeys on public transport tend to be more complicated than just a single trip on a train or three stops on the local bus," she added.
