Network Rail reports improved performance

Network Rail has announced punctuality reached 92.3 per cent during period six. 


Running between August 18th to September 14th 2013, the figures are up from 91.3 per cent in the last period - running from July 21st to August 17th.


Network Rail's moving annual average, however, has gone down from 90.8 per cent to 90.7 per cent.


East Coast trains experienced the most delays with a performance of 83.1 per cent. Network Rail claimed responsibility for around 70 per cent of East Coast train delays, and 60 per cent of late services in general.


Over all, it accountable for 60 per cent of setbacks. This includes problems caused by or to the facilities operating under National Rail, such as infrastructure, weather and vandalism.


The most reliable service was provided by c2c Rail with 98.1 per cent of its services being within the time limits set by National Rail - commuter trains can be no more than five minutes late, while longer-distance services have a ten minute window.
