Growth for transport and haulage SMEs

29 August 2013/Categories: Industry News

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in transport and haulage have experienced a growth of around four per cent in the second quarter of 2013.

According to Bibby Financial Service, after looking at over 150 SME transport firms, half have recorded an increase in new customers in June, with 45 per cent reporting a rise in orders.

Commercial director for Bibby Edward Winterton said: "It's good to see this rise in demand somewhat combating increasing fuel prices.

"The sector is still a long way off its index high of 116 in the final quarter of 2010, but progress is certainly being made".

A third of SMEs noted the return of lapsed customers.

This rise in both customers and business suggests a small yet stable improvement in the sector.

Over the next year, 33 per cent of SMEs will be investing in technology, with 19 per cent saying they would consider social media as a means to increase sales.
