2 major Midlands road projects get the green light

19 July 2013/Categories: Industry News

Roads minister Stephen Hammond has confirmed that two busy highways in the Midlands will undergo an extensive makeover.

He revealed junction 19 of the M1 and the A45 and A46 Tollbar End junction near Coventry will be upgraded after independent inspectors gave the green light to the construction plans.

Both interchanges are used by more than 90,000 vehicles every day and the Department for Transport (DfT) hopes the work will help the clogged network run more smoothly.

The projects are due to start in the first quarter of 2014 and Mr Hammond thinks the developments will make a big difference.

"These improvements are vital for the economy, but most importantly for motorists in the Midlands, in reducing congestion levels and making journey times quicker in and around these two busy junctions," he commented.

Earlier this week (July 16th), the government announced new laws are being introduced to safeguard future investment in the nation's road infrastructure. The DfT also confirmed the Highways Agency will be transformed into a publicly-owned corporation.
