Leading architect to work on Gatwick expansion plans

09 July 2013/Categories: Industry News

A world-leading architect will work on Gatwick Airport's runway expansion plans, a statement from the facility has revealed.

Sir Terry Farrell, who has more than 40 years worth of experience in major developments, will advise the airport on its plans to create a second runway at the site.

Stewart Wingate, London Gatwick chief executive, welcomed Sir Terry's involvement with the project and cited his past work designing South Korea's major air hub as evidence of the architect's expertise.

Gatwick believes the creation of three two-runway airports in London - Heathrow and Stansted being the other two - is the ideal aviation solution for the UK.

Sir Terry echoed this view and said it "transforms the debate away from the over-engineered and unnecessary idea of a mega hub at Heathrow or to the east of London".

He pointed to the fact that the city has a number of large railway stations rather than one major centre as proof of why this "constellation approach" is best suited to the capital's needs.
