Beverley Bell to become next CILT UK president

13 April 2015/Categories: CILT International News

Beverley Bell FCILT, Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain, will take up the one-year presidency from Jim Spittle FCILT when he passes the honour at an inauguration lunch to be held in London on May 8th.

Beverley has been a Fellow of the Institute for nearly ten years and a Vice-President for the past two years. Commenting on her appointment Beverley said: ‘It is both an honour and a privilege to be given this opportunity to represent the logistics and transport profession during such an exciting period of growth and development.’

Commenting on Beverley’s appointment, CILT’s outgoing President, Jim Spittle FCILT said: ‘I am delighted that Beverley Bell has accepted our invitation to become the Institute’s President-Elect. She is an extremely well-respected professional through her work as Senior Traffic Commissioner and has been an enthusiastic Vice-President as she champions the causes of both passenger transport and freight.’

Beverley began her career in private law practice before establishing her own practice in 1990, specialising in Criminal and Transport Law. She was appointed Traffic Commissioner for the North West of England in April 2000 and Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain in June 2012. In these roles, Beverley works closely with the Department for Transport (DfT), Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), other government agencies and the industry to champion safe, fair and reliable passenger and goods transport. Her responsibilities as a Traffic Commissioner involve the licensing of the operators of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and of buses and coaches known as Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), the registration of local bus services, granting vocational licences and taking action against drivers of HGVs and PSVs.
