Keith Newton visits Malta to assess the growth and future of this CILT branch

19 January 2015/Categories: CILT International News

The CILT in Malta has long been an active member of the Institute and, like the country itself, has made contributions in logistics and transport well above expectations for its size and membership.

Malta is an important shipping and logistics hub with strong Mediterranean and North African links and is also a wonderful place to visit for its history and climate.

In November the local CILT Council, led by the Chairman, John Portelli, held an EGM in Valletta attended by local members and industry representatives. The focus of the meeting was the presentation of a CILT commissioned logistics and transport skills survey. This survey will provide the base for CILT’s strategy in education and training in Malta and provided some excellent insights for the market.

The Secretary General, Keith Newton, attended the meeting and also updated the group on the International strategy and five year plans.

Following the meeting the Council and the Secretary General met in Valletta to discuss how best to progress the growth of CILT in Malta including the important education sector. Next steps have been agreed and, importantly, the CILT Council is made up of many committed and enthusiastic office holders able to move the organisation forward.

Malta’s long term experience in the Institute has enabled it to help initiatives in the past in North Africa and the Middle East. So it was fitting that John Portelli & Keith Newton were able to sit down with Mahmoud Awad, the CILT Egypt CILT Coordinator, whilst in Valletta. Again the focus was on education and training and discussions reviewed how CILT courses can be offered by new accredited training organisations in Egypt. CILT Malta and International will continue to support CILT Egypt in furthering these opportunities.
