Remembering Milton Sakala FCILT (18/09/1951 – 30/07/2014)

13 October 2014/Categories: CILT International News

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport was saddened to hear of the passing of Milton Sakala FCILT.

Mr Sakala was a coach and mentor to many and will be remembered by members of the Institute as a result oriented leader.

Keith Newton, International Secretary General, said: “It was with sadness we received the news that the President of CILT Zambia, Milton Sakala, had passed away. We wish to acknowledge his leadership and contribution to Zambia and to the wider CILT family.”

David Maunder also expressed his sympathies and described Milton as “the ultimate professional in all that he did”.

Milton Kent Sakala became an active member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in 1994, joining as a member of the Copperbelt Branch of the Institute in Zambia.

Steve Rinsler offered his sympathies to Milton Sakala’s family: “Milton has made a wonderful contribution to CILT Africa and to CILT International, on top of his untiring efforts in Zambia. May his family and we remember the good and happy times.”

Due to his earlier association with the road transport sector in the United Transport and Taxis Association (UTTA), Milton was nominated to serve as a member of the Management Tender Committee at the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).

He was elected to the National Executive Committee of the Institute in Zambia as a committee member during 2006 and 2007. Sakala was elected as Honorary Secretary of the Institute, a position he held until 2010 when he left to serve Zambia in the foreign missions in Libya as First Secretary.

In 2008 Mr. Sakala was nominated by the Institute to sit on the Board of Directors for the Road Transport and Safety Agency.

In 2013 he was elected to the position of President of the Institute of Zambia and promised members that during his tenure he would ensure that the CILT Act would be enacted. He was re-elected in 2014 as President of the Institute due to his outstanding leadership. Mr Sakala’s push for the legislation of the Act (CILT Bill) are nearing enactment after it passed the third reading in the recent sitting of Parliament and it’s with deep regret that he will not see the fruits of his effort.

Another outstanding achievement that Milton supervised was the formation of Zambia’s Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) which was launched in November 2013.
