The International Young Persons Committee: Moving Forward

13 October 2014/Categories: CILT International News

The International Young Persons Committee was established in October 2012 and has had a significant impact on the development and growth of global committees. The committee is planning on continuously working around the initiatives to encourage more countries without an existing group to set one up and make full use of their YPC.

As well as aiming to increase communication between YPs around the world, the committee will actively promote and look to increase the membership of Young Professionals in the Institute.

In the 20+ months that the scheme has been running, the IYPC has connected with eight countries on Facebook and has over 400 email conversations with 1000+ members from varying countries on the go. It is now hoped that the IYPC can promote the importance of becoming a member by raising their profile and allowing members to gain industry credibility through CILT levels.

The IYPC team has made progress in handling YP related matters, including membership and education. Regular university visits have also become common practice for the team to promote membership, raise awareness and deliver consistent values to Young Professionals. Regular engagement on social media has also been a success over the last two years. Successful set up and implementation of YPCs in Ireland and Tanzania shows the diversity and commitment IYPC have to rolling out more and more committees in the future.

As the scheme enters its third year, a new committee structure has been created. With a vision to provide regular networking and learning opportunities with industry leaders and professionals, as well as offering training programmes, highlighting the importance of the online knowledge centre and providing up-to-date industry news and information, the new look IYPC will coordinate, unite and work with local YPs on initiatives and learning projects and will act as a bridge between local, regional and international levels.

Below is the new structure for IYPC; click on Committee Member names to take you their full profile.

The above members will connect with local YP Heads, take ownership of social media and share their experience with current and new members. They will also be responsible for reporting successful events via Email and Social Media in addition to planning, contributing to and attending annual International Conventions.

At the Malaysian Convention in June 2014, several points and practices were highlighted that will continue to be improved and developed by the IYPC team in the near future.
