West Coast Railways suspension revoked by Network Rail

08 May 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Rail

Network Rail has announced it has revoked the suspension of service notice on West Coast Railways.

The organisation is satisfied that West Coast Railways has addressed all of the actions set out in the document, which took effect on April 3rd - and the suspension has been lifted as of 12:01am on May 8th.

Ongoing safety concerns were cited as the main reason behind the original decision to issue the revocation.

A range of actions had been issued to West Coast Railways to ensure the service would run more safely in the future.

Freight director for Network Rail Paul McMahon wrote a letter to chairman of the rail firm David Smith, in which he welcomed the commitment made by West Coast Railways to improving safety management.

"We recognise and welcome that you intend to put in place a phased return of services, to allow you and your most experienced staff to implement your new procedures before use with a wider range of services," the letter read.
